Okay, so I am one of those freaks that likes school. If I could, I would go to school for the rest of my life. But, our President is making a case for longer school days and shortened summer vacations. Read this
Our children do need down time. They need time to be bored and learn to be alone and learn how to keep themselves occupied when they are alone. (the whole over-scheduled child will be discussed in another post) But, I cannot argue with results. Children learning more would be great. Teachers actually being able to spend time with students who may need help with a particular subject would be wonderful.
Where is the money going to come from? Who is going to pay for this? Really, I am serious, who is going to pay for it?
Talk amongst yourselves…

You will find I ask this question a lot. What is with parents these days?????
I was in the library with my daughter the other day. BTW, I love the library. I can remember going to the library with my mother when I was a child. The library in Coral Gables was huge, cool, and quiet. People were speaking in low voices. It was known that you did not run or speak loudly in the library. In short, it was very peaceful. Yes, the library has always been a safe, quiet place for me to escape to when I need some peace.
So, we were in the children’s section which is louder than the rest of the library, but still most people realize they should be quiet and speak in low tones and not being obnoxious while in the library. We were looking for books on pandas and suddenly, the Loud Family arrived. Mom, dad, 3 sons, and 1 young daughter. It started like this:
Mom – “Josh, Joe, and John, go find 3 books each” <read this aloud, really loud>
Dad – “Jean Anne, why don’t you go play on the computer” <again, read aloud, really loud>
Shortly thereafter…
Jean Anne – “Dad, dad, daddy, dad, daddy, dad, dad, daddy, dad, dad, mom, mommy, mom, mom, mommy!”
Absolutely no reaction from the parents, they totally ignored her as she disturbed everyone else in the room, and it is a large room. This went on and on, loud, annoying, and totally ridiculous.
Why, why, why??? My peace was destroyed by these amazingly unaware parents. Unfortunately this is not unusual these days. Children are whining everywhere and their parents pay no attention. Sad fact is, it is not the childs fault. The fault lies totally with the parents. Children behave in public the way they behave at home. If you let your child run around, scream, back talk you, etc. at home, they are definately going to do it in public.
Parents, please, you are in charge, you are the adult, act like it.
