Okay, so I am one of those freaks that likes school.  If I could, I would go to school for the rest of my life.  But, our President is making a case for longer school days and shortened summer vacations.  Read this

Our children do need down time.  They need time to be bored and learn to be alone and learn how to keep themselves occupied when they are alone.  (the whole over-scheduled child will be discussed in another post)  But, I cannot argue with results.  Children learning more would be great.  Teachers actually being able to spend time with students who may need help with a particular subject would be wonderful.

Where is the money going to come from?  Who is going to pay for this?  Really, I am serious, who is going to pay for it?

Talk amongst yourselves…

So, The Business Insider has run an article, wait, no, a slideshow -gotta get those site clicks up to sell advertising, wrong topic – getting back on track, the Business Insider ran an article about the 15 most corrupt members of Congress:  view slideshow here.

There are a couple of things that bother me…read the comments, weeding out the f-bombs and general crazy’s and you do end up with some coherent thoughts.  The best comment, and my new borrowed catch phrase, come from JOHN.  He writes, “Go Green, Recycle Congress”.  Is that beautiful or what?  I am pricing bumper stickers as I write this post.

Then there is poor Sherry…she needs to relearn the difference between ‘there’ and ‘their’.  She also needs to pick up a 3rd grade civics book.  The President cannot remove these jokers from office, we the voters need to do it.

I am surprised only 15 people have been singled out.  There is a nice mix of R and D, but then once a politician reaches this level, who cares what political party they belong to?  They don’t!  They are all about getting their pet projects funded and building their personal wealth and favor bank.  There are way more than 15 people who belong on this list.

They all need to be voted out on the next election.  What a coup that would be for the American public.  Vote every single seated member of Congress out of office.  Regardless of political affiliation.  Let’s just get rid of them all.

That is my political rant for the day.  Well, so far today.  Did you read the article regarding the extension of unemployment for 13 more weeks?  Here you go.

My favorite line:  “Critics of unemployment insurance argue that it can be a disincentive to looking for work”

HA!  Let whomever said this try to live on $250 a week.  Yeah, go from over $75K to $250 a week.  Believe me, I have plenty of incentive to find work.  Silly things like my son’s college education, keeping our house, paying for electricity and food.  Morons.  Morons who have no idea what it is like to live in the real world.

Stepping off soapbox….now.

Wait!  Go Green, Recycle Congress!

Okay, now I have stepped off, for the moment.

September 16   Happy post!

Since I have been a bit gloomy lately, I felt like I should write a post that tells everything, wait, several things that make me happy!  Here goes -

My children – They are great.  My son is 18, works part-time, and goes to college full-time.  He has turned out to be a great young man.  I still can’t believe he is 18.  My daughter is 9, she is a hoot.  She makes me laugh each and every day.  I am so very proud of both of them.

Alabama – We moved here from South Florida where I grew up.  Boy has that area changed in the past 30+ years.  Alabama is a lot safer, cleaner, and much friendlier.  People are, for the most part, actually polite.  I have been called ‘mam’ more in the past year than in my entire life.  We are coming up on Fall.  It is wonderful!

My house – I am so thankful that we have our house.  It is so nice to have a yard and lots of space.  Funny story, my sister actually decided what house we were going to buy.  She has lived here for years and I was only going to be able to make one trip up here before we bought the house.  My husband and I searched online and narrowed a list down to 6 homes we really liked from the pictures.  My sister and our realtor toured the homes and my sister picked this one!  It is great!

USAA – This probably sounds like a strange one, but they are the best.  We have our auto and homeowners insurance with them, a checking and savings account, a CD, and we rolled my 401K over to them.  The people there are so helpful.  We are saving a ton of money having our insurance through them, a lot of money.  Plus, they have not taken any TARP money and have been profitable since forever.  Check them out!

Chocolate – Do I really need to explain?  ;-)

Reading – I read 3 to 4 books a week.  Reading is my escape and has saved my sanity!

The Boston Red Sox – The Magic Number 14 is in effect again and Big Papi just made it into the record books for the most homeruns for a DH in Major League History!  Woo-hoo!

Cooking – There is something so relaxing about cookin.  Measuring ingredients, following the recipe, and enjoying the final product is fantastic.

Top Chef – I think it is so funny to see some of these chefs racing around and cooking with ingredients they have never worked with before.  Some of the things they make are so amazing.  They are a super talented bunch!

Man v. Food – Is there any host cuter than Adam Richman?  He is so damn funny.  I cannot believe some of the stuff he eats!  The oysters at Acme?  Yikes!  Very enjoyable show, give it a try.

Criminal Minds and Dexter – They are my sick, secret pleasures.  I know it says something about me that I like two shows about serial killers, but I am not sure what…I am psyched that the season premieres are coming soon.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries – If they are in your state, you gotta eat there.  I will let the food speak for itself.

Hmmmm, that should do it for now.  Thank you for indulging me!

September 15   The job front

Well, I am in my 5th month of unemployment.  Needless to say, I am getting a bit frustrated.  I have had my resume professionally rewritten, a couple of times.  I am not sure what is really going on…

I know the economy is really bad.  I know some folks have been out of work a lot longer than I have.  I just have to wonder.  What do I wonder, you ask?  I have to wonder if my old boss is bad-mouthing me.  Now, I know, there are laws that are supposed to prevent that, but people talk and sometimes people talk too much and sometimes they talk about things they shouldn’t talk about.  How’s that for confusing?  Ha!

That’s all from the job front.  I should have a happier topic tomorrow!  Thanks for visiting!

September 10   After the pity party…

I’m back.  As I read through my post from the other day, I thought about removing it.  But, I think I need to leave it up there so I can read it when I start feeling helpless again.  That post was fueled by anger, fear, and helplessness.  They are never good emotions to have, but we all feel this way sometimes.  Anyone who says they don’t are liars.

Speaking of liars…

“You Lie!”

Wow!  I am still amazed that Joe Wilson had such a moment.  Jack Cafferty of CNN wrote a blurb about it today and received so many comments, CNN is not accepting any more comments on Mr. Cafferty’s article.  (found here)

Mr. Cafferty states in his opening paragraph that Mr. Wilson, “confirmed a lot of what the American public can’t stand about politicians”.  If Mr. Cafferty is referring to the arrogance and “disrespectfulness” of politicians, then he hit the nail on the head for me.  This arrogance and overbearing nature to disrespect everyone but themselves is why I have no respect for any of our politicians.  Yep, you read right, I do not respect any of them, not a one, from the President on down.

Would I shout, “You are a liar” at the President?  No.  I do feel that regardless of your political affiliation we, as Americans, must show the Office of the President respect.

Would I call into question the ability of these people to do what is right for us the general public?  You betcha!  I do call that into question.

These people are career politicians.  They have been in office for years and have absolutely no concept of what ‘we’ go through every day.  None of them.  They all took extended vacations this year.  Did you get to take a vacation?  Neither did I.  Our economy is a total mess and these folks are ‘resting’?  No.  None of our politicians should take a ‘vacation’ until our economy has stabilized.  If they are going to pass a national health care program, they and their families should be required to participate.  None of them are losing their homes.  None of them are having to take paycuts because their company is operating at a deficit.  None of them are experiencing what we are experiencing.  They are spoiled and egotistical.

And it is our fault.  We put them into office either by voting for them or by not voting because we feel we cannot make a difference.  Well, we are wrong.  We can make a difference.

We need to band together and get a constitutional amendment passed that will limit the number of terms a Congressperson can be in office.  We limit the number of terms the President can “serve”, (HA! serve?  serve themselves), we should be limiting the number of terms these people can serve, too.

There are men and women in office that have no business being in office.  There is one Senator who is in office now who cannot even speak in a clear sentence!  There was a Senator in office who had to have a handler with him whenever he went into the public because he had no idea who or where he was in the final years.

Want to fix this country?  Let’s get the following processes put into place:

Congressional Term Limitation – All of the b.s. back scratching, PACs, and lobbyists would not be able to buy votes

Flat Income Tax – everyone, and I mean everyone, pays the same amount of income tax.  Imagine a simple tax form…no deductions, no finagling, no loopholes, just a flat tax.  You make X, you pay Y% of that.  Really simple, huh?

Presidential Line Item Veto – Kill the pork barreling!  If a bill is supposed to cover health care, then it only covers health care.  No one gets to sneak in $55 million for this and $60 million for that.  Again, simple.

I feel these three processes would eliminate a lot of the problems we currently have.  What are your thoughts?
