I started reading the In Death series before anyone know it was written by Nora Roberts.  J.D. Robb fast became on of my favorite authors.  Lt. Eve Dallas fast became on of my favorite characters.  She is feisty, damaged, and strong.  She is a survivor.  If you want a book that will take you to the future and out of your own head, you gotta read this series.

In this latest installment, Promises in Death, we are shown the side of a main character we have not seen before.  I am not going to get into the storyline too much, because it would ruin preceding books for you.  Start at the beginning of the series, Naked in Death, and savor each one.

Enjoy!

Michael Connelly is one of my favorite authors.  I have read all of his books and enjoyed every one of them.  9 Dragons is no exception.  Of course, the book features on of my favorite characters, Harry Bosch.

9 Dragonstakes Harry from Los Angeles to Hong Kong.  In an effort to solve the murder of the owner of a liquor store, Harry learns something that the folks in Hong Kong don’t want him to know.  As the bad guys try to stop Harry by taking the one thing he values in the world, they actually unleash an unstoppable force.  The force, of course, is a pissed-off Harry Bosch.

If you have not read Michael Connelly, do it.  He won’t let you down.

Enjoy!

Not only do I love books about ex-cops and ex-soldiers, I really enjoy books about vampires, were-animals, and the humans they interact with in their lives.  Sherrilyn Kenyon has delivered great stories about supernatural beings for years.  She has several series that are just plain fun.

Bad Moon Rising gives us insight into one of her characters we previously knew as a ‘side-character’.  (yes, I know that is not a real literary term, these book reviews are for fun if you did not notice before.  they are also completely biased!)  Fang Kattalakis has made appearances in her previous novels.  Now, he is the mail character.  Of course, now, I need to go back and read the other books so I can fit him into the time line better.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is not writing Moby Dick or Wuthering Heights.  She knows this and her fans know this.  I am a big fan because reading is my entertainment.  There are some TV Shows I enjoy, but I would always, always rather read a book.  Plus, it is nice to think that there are other folks on this earth who work to protect us so that the burden is not always left to police officers, sheriff deputies, fire fighter, and soldiers.  We can all use some help!

If you want some mind candy to munch on, start reading Sherrilyn Kenyon’s books.  Start at the beginning so that you know who the characters are.

Enjoy!

Since I am already disenchanted with our politicians, the revelations in this book are not hard for me to swallow.  David Baldacci begins First Familywith a child’s birthday party at Camp David.  From there, the action escalates.  Sean King and Michelle Maxwell are flawed, but believable characters.  As they search for the truth, they learn things about themselves and others that shock them and the reader.

The story moves quickly and makes the reader stay invested in the book.  I had a hard time putting it down!  Grab the book from Barnes and Noble or head out to the library.

Enjoy!

Vanished begins with a disturbing scene.  A woman and her husband have just finished dinner, are walking back to their car, when someone whacks her on the head and she awakens to find her husband gone.  Her son enlists the help of his father’s brother, an ex-Special Forces, turned investigator bad ass.  (noticing a theme here with the books I read?)

As Nick Heller searches for his brother, protects his s-i-l and nephew, he learns things about his brother and boss that he really did not want to know.  With his father already in jail, Nick had hoped his brother would not follow in his father’s footsteps.  He is disappointed.

You don’t need to run for this book, but it is a good read.

Enjoy!
